Biography
Markus Vogl is a Professor of Art at the Myers School of Art at the University of Akron and a NE Ohio based multimedia artist experimenting in multiple sensory experiences combining sound, environments, and interactive installation. He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in New Media from Donau Universität Krems/transart institute and has over 30 years of experience in the field. Vogl is also an expert in 3D printing and digital fabrication, serving as the Faculty Director of the M-Lab Makerspace at the University of Akron. He is a principal at //benitez_vogl studio, a creative practice exploring the intersection of art, design, and emerging technologies.
Originally from Salzburg, Austria, Vogl has exhibited his work internationally in the U.S., Asia, Europe, and Oceania. Vogl has presented papers at conferences such as Shapeshifting in Auckland, New Zealand, the New Media Art Caucus Artist showcases at the Annual College Art Association Conference, South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, Digital Fashion in London, Computers and the History of Art in London, and the BIFT/ITAA Research Symposium in Beijing. He is the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship, NEA and NSF grants and has been an Artist in Residence at Museumsquartier in Vienna, Austria. Vogl has been a featured speaker at events across the United States and has participated in over 70 exhibitions on 4 continents, such as Seattle’s EMP, ELISAVA Barcelona, Spain, IFFTI Manchester, UK, KZNSA South Africa, Academy of Visual Arts in Hong Kong, Nanyang University Singapore and Otago Museum in Dunedin, New Zealand.
