Overview

The Bachelor of Business Administration in Applied AI and Information Systems at The University of Akron puts artificial intelligence at the center of a business degree. You’ll study AI programming, Large Language Models, machine learning, deep learning and data visualization in a College of Business with dual AACSB accreditation in business and accounting — not a computer science department.

You’ll explore how data moves through organizations, how AI can transform processes and decision-making, and how to develop solutions businesses can actually use. Coursework includes Data Provision for Applied Artificial Intelligence, Artificial Intelligence for Business and Deep Learning for Business.

The program was developed in response to the rise of AI, with curriculum shaped by College of Business faculty and insights from industry professionals serving on the Center for IT & Analytics Advisory Board. You’ll have opportunities to participate in the annual Business Analytics Innovation Summit and gain hands-on experience applying what you learn. Every College of Business student also completes the required Experience Guarantee professional development program.

From your first year, advising can help you explore where your skills could take you, including careers as a data analyst, data engineer, AI project manager or AI solution architect — or continued study at the master’s level.

The global AI job market is projected to grow at a rate of more than 31% through 2033, according to a report by Grand View Research.

A Bachelor of Business Administration where the technical core is applied artificial intelligence: AI programming, Large Language Models, machine learning, deep learning and data provision, combined with the business foundation that makes the technology adoptable.

Choose computer science to build the models; choose this degree to deploy them inside organizations. The overlap is real, but the jobs differ: this program aims at the analyst, engineer, project manager and architect roles that sit between technical teams and business decisions.

The program is new, but it was intentionally built around the growing demand for AI and analytics skills in business. Students can see the curriculum, faculty expertise and industry input that shaped the program, along with the College of Business’ dual AACSB accreditation and opportunities like the Business Analytics & Innovation Summit. While the program doesn’t have a long alumni track record yet, students can evaluate the depth of what is already in place.

Yes. The BBA sits in a college holding dual AACSB accreditation, a standing shared by roughly the top 1% of business schools worldwide.
