Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in English program offers students a dynamic foundation in literature, language, rhetoric, and creative writing. Through engaging coursework and close faculty mentorship, students sharpen their critical thinking, writing, and cultural literacy. Our graduates go on to thrive in a variety of careers—from law and journalism to publishing and technical writing—carrying with them a deep appreciation for the power of language and storytelling.

Practical Experience

The University of Akron offers practical experience for students to submit and showcase their writing. 

  • The Ashbelt: The University of Akron's student-run literary journal exclusively features the creative work of University undergraduates.

  • Upstart Crows:  The Literary Guild sponsors a reading group and a writing group, dubbed The Upstart Crows, which hosts “open mic” poetry nights, travels to see plays performed in Akron and Cleveland, and engages in a variety of other intellectual and social activities throughout the year.
