Overview

Here at the University of Akron students will learn to value the Spanish language, culture, history and themselves as individuals. We offer a wide variety of courses and degree plants to fit all learners. Many students who choose to Major or Minor in Spanish also choose to pursue one of our certificates as the requirements can count toward multiple plans. With a background in the humanities, graduates can think creatively and communicate effectively. Our faculty are innovative, interactive and ready to guide you through your undergraduate career in Spanish. 

Admissions Requirements

The Spanish minor requires 18 credits, with 12 credits beyond Intermediate Spanish I [SPAN 201] and Intermediate Spanish II [SPAN 202] at the 300 level or higher.

Spanish 301 (Conversation), Spanish 302 (Composition), and Spanish 303 (Grammar) are recommended as well as any Spanish 300/400 level electives and/or through a UA Department of Modern Languages Study Abroad program.

SPAN 301 and SPAN 302 may be taken for up to 6 credits each.

Additional Information

Those with previous Spanish study should greatly consider taking a placement test, located on My Akron under Services. 

No prior experience, no problem! Students can enroll in Beginning Spanish I and continue their study through Intermediate levels an Upper levels!
