Overview

The two-year Mechanical Engineering Technology program teaches students the fundamentals needed to operate machines, test products and improve manufacturing processes. Students can continue their education by pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology. This field focuses on designing products and the machines used to make them.

Mechanical technicians are needed across many industries, from steelmaking to consumer products like tires, cars and home appliances. They work alongside engineers in design, testing, manufacturing and servicing mechanical components and systems found throughout industry. Graduates with an associate degree are well prepared to start careers in various areas of mechanical technology.

Admissions Requirements

  • Students who meet The University of Akron’s admission requirements and choose engineering as their major are directly admitted into the College

  • If you're coming from high school, your high school records will help determine the best first-semester courses for you

Career Outcomes

Our graduates have found jobs as engineering lab technicians, assistant design engineers, design drafters and plant engineers. They have been placed at companies such as Bridgestone, Diebold Nixdorf, Hendrickson, Honda, Parker Hannifin Corporation, Schaeffler and Swagelok.

Demand for mechanical technicians is strong now and is expected to grow. Thousands of new mechanical technicians are needed each year. Mechanical technicians work in many areas of the mechanical field.

YES, some things just set us apart.
