Overview
The Undergraduate Certificate in Environmental Studies gives you an interdisciplinary background in environmental issues while complementing your academic major or profession. Designed for flexibility, the program allows you to tailor your coursework to your individual career goals. You’ll work with the program director to develop a personalized plan of study that includes environmentally focused courses outside your major.
Open to both degree-seeking and non-degree students, the program has been completed by students from majors and industries as varied as biology, chemistry, civil engineering, communication, economics, education, English, geology, political science, sociology, and urban studies. Where development and industrialization shape our relationship with the natural world, this program equips you with the knowledge to make informed decisions about environmental issues in personal, professional, and civic contexts.
Admissions Requirements
To participate in the program the student should:
• Be formally admitted to The University of Akron as an undergraduate student.
Be in good academic standing in their major department.
Make a written application to the program and receive written notification of admission from the Center for Environmental Studies.
