Overview
The Computer Information Systems (CIS) Software Development certificate can be earned without completing a full degree.
This certificate builds your skills in software development and database management. You'll learn core computing concepts and gain hands-on experience needed for the workforce.
Courses are taught in modern computer labs, and flexible day and evening class options make it easy to fit into your schedule.
Admissions Requirements
Students who meet The University of Akron’s admission requirements and choose engineering as their major are directly admitted into the College
If you're coming from high school, your high school records will help determine the best first-semester courses for you
Students must pass a Computer Literacy Placement test or complete the bridge course CISS 105 Introduction to Computers and Application Software with a grade of C- or better prior to enrolling in the technical courses for this program. This class does not count towards program requirements.
Students must attain a C- or better in each transferred course in the CIS area.

Our engineering students learn through experience. Our famed co-op program, one of the oldest in the country, provides students with paid industry experience. On average, students earn $47K over three co-op rotations, all while completing their degree. Within six months of graduation, our 2024 College graduates launched careers, pursued graduate school, or entered military service, with an average starting salary of $72K.
