This certificate program is designed for both degree and non-degree seeking students or professionals who want to build a foundation in computer science and expand their skill set.
Admissions Requirements
Students who meet The University of Akron’s admission requirements and choose engineering as their major are directly admitted into the College
If you're coming from high school, your high school records will help determine the best first-semester courses for you
To qualify for the Computer Science Certificate Program, you must have a bachelor's degree in another field. You also need to submit a written request to the Department of Computer Science chair explaining your reasons and goals for enrolling. A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required in the certificate coursework. To avoid double counting credits, elective credits earned in this certificate program cannot be used toward any other major, minor or certificate at The University of Akron. Credits from this program also cannot be applied to the Computer Science Minor.

Our engineering students learn through experience. Our famed co-op program, one of the oldest in the country, provides students with paid industry experience. On average, students earn $47K over three co-op rotations, all while completing their degree. Within six months of graduation, our 2024 College graduates launched careers, pursued graduate school, or entered military service, with an average starting salary of $72K.
