Overview

The B.S. in Construction Engineering Technology program at The University of Akron combines classroom, lab and real-world experiences to prepare you for leadership roles in the construction industry.

Graduates work with owners and architects to turn ideas into fully functioning systems. They take on roles in construction supervision, testing, inspection, scheduling and estimating for both public and private companies.

Students learn the latest in construction technology, including building information modeling, contract law, project planning and scheduling, cost and quantity estimating, lean building science and sustainable building practices. Courses are taught by experienced faculty who are licensed engineers and industry professionals.

Career Outcomes

Professionals in construction engineering technology use their knowledge of construction methods, business operations and management skills to support a wide range of projects. They work on residential and commercial buildings, bridges, roads, dams and wastewater treatment systems.

Recent graduates from The University of Akron’s Construction Engineering Technology program have started careers in construction supervision, testing, inspection, scheduling and estimating for both public and private projects. They have been hired by companies such as the Ohio Department of Transportation, Great Lakes Construction and Environmental Design Group.

Learn Through Experience

Our engineering students learn through experience. Our famed co-op program, one of the oldest in the country, provides students with paid industry experience. On average, students earn $47K over three co-op rotations, all while completing their degree. Within six months of graduation, our 2024 College graduates launched careers, pursued graduate school, or entered military service, with an average starting salary of $72K.
