Overview
The University of Akron offers an associate’s degree in land surveying that prepares students for technical and professional careers in surveying. Graduates are ready to work as surveying technicians under the guidance of a professional registered surveyor. The program builds a strong foundation in mathematics, natural science, communication, and surveying skills needed to become a Certified Surveying Technician (CST) through the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS).
Students who earn the AAS in Land Surveying can continue their education and earn a BS in Surveying and Mapping with two more years of full-time study. The bachelor’s program meets the academic requirements for professional surveyor licensing in Ohio and nearly all states.

Career Outcomes
Surveyors collect field data, verify its accuracy, and map features and contours for land development or roadway projects. They also interpret engineering design plans to place line and grade stakes for new construction.
Graduates of The University of Akron’s AAS Land Surveying Program are in high demand. They work for surveying and engineering consulting firms, federal, state, and local governments, construction companies, and energy and public utilities firms.

Our engineering students learn through experience. Our famed co-op program, one of the oldest in the country, provides students with paid industry experience. On average, students earn $47K over three co-op rotations, all while completing their degree. Within six months of graduation, our 2024 College graduates launched careers, pursued graduate school, or entered military service, with an average starting salary of $72K.
