Overview

Sport Analytics blends sports, business, and data. You’ll learn how analytics are used to enhance player and coach performance, optimize personnel decisions, and create innovative fan engagement strategies. Designed for students with an analytical mindset, this unique program allows you to combine your interests in sports and business in meaningful, impactful ways. 

Our program is immersive and hands-on. One of only a few undergraduate sport analytics programs nationwide, it features an interdisciplinary curriculum recognized around the world. You’ll build quantitative, critical thinking, and decision-making skills while gaining real-world experience through internships and a capstone consulting project. 

You’ll learn from faculty and industry professionals and benefit from strong relationships with sport organizations in Northeast Ohio and across the country. Through partnerships with the Browns, Cavs, and Guardians, you’ll gain exposure to real analytics and career-building opportunities. Along the way, personalized academic advising helps you prepare for an exciting future in the data-driven world of sports.

Dual Degree Opportunity

Students can earn a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Analytics and a Master of Science in Economics in just five years. Juniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher can stay an additional two semesters to deepen their quantitative and analytical skills. Coursework in econometrics, statistical modeling, and forecasting prepares you to analyze player performance, optimize team and revenue strategies, and understand the economic forces shaping the sports industry. This accelerated option positions you for advanced, data-driven roles while saving time and money. 

Admissions Requirements

The University of Akron Bulletin acts as a guide for degree requirements, however official requirements are established at the time of transfer and admission to the degree-granting college.
