Biography

Mary Beth Stauffer began teaching drawing classes at the University of Akron in 2002; teaching Foundations Life Drawing, Foundations Drawing, and Drawing II. She also taught Foundations Drawing at the Wayne College campus.

She received an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia (1995). She also holds a BS in Business Administration from Miami University in Ohio. She began her teaching career at the University of Pennsylvania as Lecturer, co-teaching drawing classes for architecture students with visiting artist, Rodney Place, in 1995. Before coming to the University of Akron, Mary Beth taught at Waubonsee Community College, near Chicago.

Mary Beth’s current studio work in painting addresses the figure and landscape. The imagery embodies her interest in organic form, rhythmic line and a sense of space.

Her interest in drawing from careful observation drives her studio classroom. Currently as Senior Lecturer, she strives to enable student success by way of teaching keen observation and translation skills in drawing.

She has exhibited paintings in Eastern Pennsylvania and New York City. During recent years, Mary Beth has received commissions to do portraiture for local clients in the Akron area.
