Professional & Academic Experience

Peter Elmer is a Ph.D. Economist that currently works part-time as an independent consultant for statistical, data, and analytic work in the Washington Federal Sector, especially in the areas of mortgage finance, mortgage-backed securities, financial markets, risk management, and analytics. Over 25 years of experience at Federal Agencies and related private consulting, including Freddie Mac, FDIC, Ginnie Mae, Deloitte, and PwC. Deep experience with analysis of mortgage markets, securitization, counterparty risk, financial institutions, Agency operations, and financial markets. Project management for implementation of performance monitoring systems, statistical models, benchmarks, surveys, capital models, and other analytic/reporting projects. Worked extensively with senior and mid-level Agency staff to develop sophisticated risk indexes, performance benchmarks, new programs, and monitoring systems.

Peter graduated from the University of Akron with a BA in Labor Economics in 1975, an MA in Economics in 1977, and a Ph.D. in Economics from Purdue University in 1983. Peter has published over two dozen articles in a variety of academic and professional journals and taught a variety of subjects at five universities. Started and owns a real estate investment company that focuses on buying, rehabilitating, and either renting or selling properties in the Akron area.

Peter is married to his life-partner, Rita, and they have seven children together (3 boys and 4 girls). They live in Reston Virginia, which has been their home for 35 years. Peter remains active as a volunteer leader in the Boy Scouts and Career Confidence, which provides assistance to unemployed professionals.
