Your sophomore year at The University of Akron is the perfect time to gain a better understanding of your passions, identify areas of strength and potential development, and gain experience to discover new job opportunities that may not yet exist! This Sophomore Experience is not just for business students, it's open to all UA students. This Spring 2023, you can participate in one of two Sophomore Experiences focusing on either Self-Development and Mindfulness or Innovation & Business.

Our Sophomore Experience program is a 1-credit course designed to provide a truly unique experience for you to explore your interests, uncover your passions, and experience something new while expanding your network and connecting with others in the UA community.

The Self-Development and Mindfulness section will take place on Saturday, April 1 and Saturday, April 15, 2023. The first session will include an on-campus interactive workshop with a representative from The J.M. Smucker Company. The second Saturday is a local off-site joint venture in collaboration with Heart to Heart Leadership and the Akron Zoo called ‘Mindful Zoo, Mindful You' that integrates lessons in leadership, mindfulness, resiliency, and well-being.

The Innovation in Business section will take place on Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22, 2023 in Columbus, Ohio. The experience will kick off with a company visit at Consolidated Electrical Distributors (CED) where students will meet with executives and learn how the CED team is growing and creating new products for the future. Friday evening will include a social and networking. Saturday will take place at Otherworld, a 32,000 square foot immersive experience, with large-scale interactive installations, mixed reality playgrounds, and secret passageways that will open your mind to new innovations. Transportation, hotel, and food are included! The bus will depart from UA's campus on Friday at 10:00am and will return on Saturday at 4:00pm.
