MASTER OF SCIENCE IN MANAGEMENT- BUSINESS ANALYTICS (MSM-BA) - INFORMATION SYSTEMS CONCENTRATION
Approved Federal STEM Degree Program
The Master of Science in Management - Business Analytics - Information Systems Management (MSM-BA-ISM) is a STEM degree that focuses on models, algorithms, and systems for business analytics. This concentration explores data management, artificial intelligence, systems development, and project management as they are being recast to serve analytics. The program features:
- A schedule that can be completed in as few as two regular semesters of study.
- The 30 credits of the program focus on three areas:
- 12 credits of Business Analytics Core courses which span the “how” of model creation, provisioning with data, and evaluation of the “why” of analytics in action.
- 12 credits of Information Systems Core courses that build the technical foundation for business analytics focusing on the three pillars of big data, machine learning, and programming.
- 6 credits of electives where students are encouraged to use the electives to tailor the degree to align with their career goals.

Small Class Size
Average class size is 25 students or less. Small class size allows you to develop relationships with professors and classmates
I strongly recommend this program for those who want to become leaders in technology. While most of the courses are geared to IT, the marketing and accounting courses gave me a broader perspective. Three months after I graduated, I was promoted to an IT manager.

The School of Accountancy also offers three tax certificates. These specialty certificates allow you to acquire advanced knowledge without pursuing a complete master’s degree. Specialized certificate areas include corporate tax strategies, high net-worth individual strategies, and specialized topics. The certificates are stackable towards the complete MTax degree.

The department of Management at The University of Akron consists of faculty with a rich history of education and close relationships with the professional community.
Dr. Erin Makarius is a Professor of Management and the Chair of the Management Department. While her teaching interests include human resources, organizational behavior, leadership, and managing people, her research focuses on boundary spanning in the form of work-life as well as international and organizational boundaries, with particular emphasis on the role of social networks and reputation in these processes.
