Off-Site Research
The Cummings Center provides research assistance to patrons who are unable to travel to Akron. Any research and reference requests can be directed to our Reference Archivist at ahap@uakron.edu or 330-972-6474. All researchers must complete the Archives' Access Policy Agreement.
Off-site research and reference requests carry a $20 hourly fee, based on staff research and digitization time. Very large requests for off-site assistance may not be possible. Additional digitization fees may apply (see below).
Most materials are open and available for research. Restricted materials require review by Archives staff before access can be granted.
Finding Aids
A finding aid is an inventory of the contents of an archival collection. Finding aids include important information about collections, for example: their date range, size, a biographical or historical note about the collection’s creator, and box numbers and folder numbers. The finding aid is your guide to our archival collections.
Off-site researchers can search our Finding Aid Database to identify collections of interest or specific box/folder numbers within each collection. For help navigating this database, see our Finding Aid Guide
Digitization & Reproduction
Researchers can request digital reproductions of our archival materials. A fee of $0.25 per page is required for all digital reproductions. We cannot reproduce large portions of a collection, and large requests may not be possible.
Digitization fees for moving images, sound recordings, and still images can differ depending on size, condition, and format. For digitization of non-paper based materials, please contact us for more information.
Additionally, we cannot provide reproductions of materials that are available in published form elsewhere (e.g., book chapters, journal articles).
Digital reproductions are intended only for personal use. Additional licensing fees are required for any academic or commercial use, including but not limited to scholarly articles, presentations, films, websites, blogs, and print/digital publications. Contact ahap@uakron.edu for more information on licensing fees.
