Biography

Evi Gorogianni is a Professor of Instruction at the University of Akron. She holds her degrees from the University of Cincinnati (Ph.D. and M.A.), and the University of Athens (B.A.) and is an archaeologist and an expert of the Ancient Mediterranean World. Her research focuses on cultural contact and cultural transformations during the 2nd millennium BCE in the Aegean (Greece). Her publications include Beyond Thalassocracies. Understanding Processes of Minoanisation and Mycenaeanisation in the Aegean (edited volume with P. Pavúk, and L. Girella, Oxbow Books, 2016) and several papers in edited volumes, as well as in peer-review journals such as Hesperia, Aegean Archaeology, and American Journal of Archaeology. Her distinctions include the Niarchos Greek Diaspora Fellowship, the INSTAP Post-Doctoral Fellowship, and the Notre Dame Institute of Advanced Study Distinguished Fellowship, as was also the Faculty Champion Award (for Experiential Learning) from the EX[L] Center of The University of Akron. Her latest ongoing (soon to be field) project is the study of the MBA ceramic assemblage discovered recently under the classical theatre of Karthaia on Kea.

Dr. Gorogianni teaches classes on the Ancient Mediterranean World (Empires of the Ancient World, Mythology of Greece, Sports and Society in Ancient Greece and Rome), archaeology (Archaeology of Greece and Rome, and Archaeological Lab Methods), as well as gender.
