Biography
A specialist in the history of 20th-century Europe, especially modern German history, Shelley Baranowski taught undergraduate and graduate courses on Nazi Germany, the Holocaust, and 20th-century Europe. She is the author of The Confessing Church, Conservative Elites and the Nazi State (Mellen, 1986), The Sanctity of Rural Life: Nobility, Protestantism, and Nazism in Weimar Prussia (Oxford Univ. Press, 1995), Strength through Joy: Consumerism and Mass Tourism in the Third Reich (Camb.Univ. Press, 2004), and Nazi Empire: German Imperialism and Colonialism From Bismarck to Hitler. She is also the co-editor of Being Elsewhere: Tourism, Consumer Culture, and Identity in Modern Europe and North American (University of Michigan Press, 2001), as well as the author of articles in Contemporary European History, The Journal of Modern History, Social History, European History Quarterly, German History, and German Studies Review.
