Students can earn credit for work/life experiences

08/10/2010

The University of Akron’s Summit College Technical Experience Assessment (TEA) Workshop helps adults turn their work/life college-level learning into college credits.

The TEA Workshop will be offered on Thursday evenings from Sept. 30 to Nov. 18. The workshop guides students through portfolio preparation – an opportunity to put work/life experiences into perspective by writing about and documenting prior learning. A portfolio is required for each course for which credit is attempted.

Eligible Summit College majors include criminal justice technology, early childhood development, fire protection technology, community service technology, emergency medical services, paralegal studies, hospitality management, computer information systems, office administration, marketing and sales, and business management.

Students can earn as many as 24 semester hours in University credit for prior experience in these areas.

Those interested are encouraged to speak with the TEA coordinator to discuss course content and experiences that qualify for college credit. Fees include: $80 for Continuing Education course tuition, $55 (per portfolio) for faculty review and $30 for enrollment for first-time UA students.

For more information, visit the Technical Experience Assessment Program website, or contact Susan Wynn, TEA coordinator, at TEA_coordinator@uakron.edu or at 330-972-2147. Applications for the September workshop are due by Sept. 16.
