Marketing Student Selected for Interactive Marketing Immersion Program
Megan Kane, a senior in the College of Business Administration double-majoring in marketing management and sales management, has been selected to participate in the Marketing EDGE Interactive Marketing Immersion Xperience (I-MIX) program, to be held in August in Los Angeles. I-MIX is a summer program for the most promising marketing students in the nation, designed to educate, develop, grow, and prepare them to enter the workforce. Megan became interested in marketing after competing in DECA, a high-school student organization for student interested in a marketing career during her junior and senior years of high school.
When asked how she became interested in I-MIX, Megan replied, “I had been looking for a program in which I could work with students from other universities and with different backgrounds. Jacob Farrar (Director of the Taylor Institute for Direct Marketing) came to one of my marketing classes to introduce the program and I knew right away this was the program I had been looking for.”
During the week-long, intensive program, a select group of students will be participating in seminars focused on interactive marketing. The program is hosted by a leading company in the field and seminars are led by various marketing executives and a prominent academic. Attendees will develop a better understanding of new and evolving marketing platforms, including mobile, social, and search engine marketing. Students also will participate in a career and resume workshop led by a premier career coach.
Megan hopes to learn more about interactive marketing and to gain further leadership skills and experience managing herself in unfamiliar groups. Her CBA classes have prepared her for case studies that will be used during the seminars.
The skills and knowledge gained from I-MIX will be applicable to the Grocery Sales Representative position Megan recently accepted at The J.M. Smucker Company. When she graduates in December, she certainly will have a head start in her field.
