Dr. Harvey L. Sterns, began his term as president of Division 20, Adult Development and Aging of the American Psychological Association at the organization’s 123rd annual meeting, held Aug. 6-9 in Toronto.

Sterns is a professor of psychology and director of the Institute for Life-Span Development and Gerontology at The University of Akron. He also is a research professor of family and community medicine at Northeastern Ohio Medical University.
Earlier this year, Sterns received the John Dewey Award for Outstanding Public Service from Bard College, Annandale on-Hudson, N.Y., and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Ohio Association of Gerontology and Education. He serves on the steering committee for the Sloan Center on Aging and Work at Boston College.
Sterns, who joined UA in 1971, is active in many professional organizations. He has become nationally and internationally recognized for his work in the psychology of adult development and aging, industrial gerontology, and research on cognitive intervention and aging.
