For his vision, dedication and commitment to diversity and inclusion, Lee Gill will receive the National Diversity Visionary Award from Insight Into Diversity magazine. The award is presented annually to those who have made significant past and present contributions to diversity in higher education.
Lee Gill
Gill has been the associate vice president for inclusion and equity, and chief diversity officer since 2008. In that time, he has developed mentoring programs, workshops and seminars that have raised cultural awareness, expanded cultural competencies and brought about a greater understanding of differences in people.
Gill’s efforts have been acknowledged by The National Association of Diversity Councils, the Executive Director of White House Initiatives on Educational Excellence for African Americans (David Johns), the Ohio Diversity Officers Collaboration, the Advisory Board of the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in Higher Education, and more.
“It is indeed an honor to be selected as a recipient of this award, and I am humbled by this recognition,” Gill says.
He shares credit for the honor with those who have influenced him.
“Though I was selected, it was driven by the many successful initiatives in place here at The University of Akron, thanks to a lot of good people. Equally as important, it is also a testament to the many mentors I have had and the impact of their teachable moments on my growth.”
