The University of Akron’s Financial Planning Program was ranked 11th in the country by WealthManagement.com in its 2019 rankings released last week.

A total of 67 on-campus, full-time, four-year programs were assessed on a number of indicators, including number and kind of degrees granted, number of full-time faculty and their equivalents, number of faculty with advanced degrees, capstone courses offered, faculty with Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP) certification, and number of electives offered.

“This ranking is an affirmation of the hard work and dedication of our faculty, the incredible support from our program sponsors from the financial services industry, and a testament to the great students and alumni from our program., said Dr. Susan Hanlon, interim dean of the College of Business Administration.

UA’s program is the only one in Ohio, other than Wright State (ranked 21), to make the final ranking of the top 48 programs.

“This is a great accomplishment for our program, for the College of Business Administration, and The University of Akron,” says Dr. Barry S. Mulholland, Certified Financial Planner™, director of the program and assistant professor of practice — as well as an alumnus of the top-ranked program at Texas Tech University. “Our students are enthusiastic and engaged learners, continually competing for honors and earning placement in top jobs and internships each year.”

Financial Planning students continue to succeed in and out of the classroom. A team from UA will compete in the finals of the Financial Planning Challenge in Minneapolis this weekend, sponsored by the Financial Planning Association, Ameriprise Financial and the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards (CFP Board).
