Day of service makes a difference

10/29/2018

More than 720 students, staff and faculty members volunteered for UA’s 14th annual Make a Difference Day last Friday.

This annual day of giving back is celebrated in communities across the country on the last Saturday of October. We held our day of service as part of our new Five-Star Friday schedule. UA’s Make a Difference Day program is one of the nation’s largest based at a university and has been recognized nationally.

From Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens to the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank and One of a Kind Pet Rescue, our volunteers contributed approximately 1,700 hours of service, benefitting 25 volunteer sites and two on-campus service projects – Operation Evergreen and Replay for Kids. In total, our celebration of Make a Difference Day contributed $14,093.40 of minimum wage work to our community partners and the agencies they served.

Combined over the last 14 years, the University has assisted more than 9,407 students and staff in volunteering to serve on this annual day of service. To date, these volunteers have dedicated more than 30,208 hours of service to the Greater Akron area.

More opportunities for students to get involved in our community.
