UA’s Women’s Studies Program and the Women’s and Gender Resource Program are the sponsors of V-Day University of Akron.
“The Vagina Monologues” was first performed off-Broadway by Ensler as she explored the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage and excitement of women’s experiences. She has performed the play to great acclaim throughout the world — from Zagreb to Santa Barbara, from London to Seattle, from Jerusalem to Oklahoma City.
V-Day is a global movement focused on ending violence against girls and women through public performances, education, networking and fundraising. In 2016, more than 5,800 V-Day benefits were held around the world. These events raised more than $5 million through performances of “The Vagina Monologues” and “A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant.”
