University of Akron libraries holding library fine amnesty event
The University of Akron libraries are conducting a library fine amnesty event to help students clear library holds on their University accounts due to library fines. Students who have library holds and participate in the amnesty event will be able to register for spring semester classes. The amnesty event runs through Friday, Dec. 2.
“We hope this event attracts all UA students with outstanding fines or missing materials,” said Melanie Smith-Farrell, the head of Access Services at Bierce Library. “It’s important that students register for classes as soon as possible and we don’t want a library hold holding students back.”
When a student returns an overdue book to a UA library through Dec. 2, the library will waive the fine. In the case of lost materials, library staff will help the student find the lowest replacement cost. Library staff members are prepared to then lift the hold on the student account.
Students who can benefit from the program have been contacted by library staff to encourage their attendance. The event is only available to students and no refunds will be given for previously paid library fines.
Students are welcome to visit any UA library, including Bierce, Science and Technology, Law, and Wayne College. More information on the amnesty event is available at each library and by calling 330-972-5355.
