08/30/2017

In just a matter of months, the Finance Department within the College of Business Administration has received three grants to support its new Risk Management and Insurance Program. The most recent funding, a $4,000 grant from the Spencer Education Foundation, Inc., will support a “Risk Manager in Residence” program and provide funds for the new Gamma Beta Chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma, the International Fraternity for Risk Management, Insurance, and Actuarial Science Students. “Receiving funds through the Spencer Education Foundation grant provides a great opportunity for the new Risk Management and Insurance program in the College of Business Administration,” stated Dr. Jill Bisco, Assistant Professor of Finance.

For nearly 20 years, The Spencer Education Foundation has sponsored the “Risk Manager in Residence” program, which has been praised by both risk managers and universities as a rewarding educational experience and a chance for the Foundation to give back to the profession. The College of Business Administration has been privileged to receive this grant every year since 2014.

As part of the Fall 2017 “Risk Manager in Residence” program, The University of Akron will be hosting Mr. Lance Ewing, Executive Vice President of Global Risk Management for Cotton Holdings, Inc. Mr. Ewing will be on campus October 15 – 17, 2017. “Rarely do students and professionals in the industry get the opportunity to attend a presentation by an industry leader, such as Lance Ewing,” Dr. Bisco shared. “Our students and local businesses are privileged to get this opportunity.” Prior to joining Cotton Holdings, Inc., Mr. Ewing was VP Industry Practice Group Leader at AIG and served in senior risk management capacities for Caesars Entertainment and the City of Philadelphia School District. Details on how to attend Mr. Ewing’s presentation will be available soon.
