Deck The Hall – a joyful celebration of the holiday – will debut at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall on Sunday, Dec. 13, at 3 p.m. as part of the School of Music’s Kulas Concert Series. It will feature the Concert Choir and Brass Choir.

The University of Akron event is spearheaded by Dr. Marie Bucoy-Calavan, director of the School of Music’s large Choral Studies program, and Dr. Christopher Blaha, assistant professor of tuba and conductor of the Brass Choir.

“Making beautiful, high-quality music that the whole family can enjoy represents the holidays for me,” says Bucoy-Calavan, who leads the Concert Choir, Chamber Choir and Men’s Chorus, and serves as the faculty advisor for Nuance, Rhythm and Roos and Kanga Blue — the three student a cappella ensembles on campus.

Blaha agreed, noting, “Our goal is to perform great holiday music for the families in the Akron community.”

The groups will perform styles ranging from Mendelssohn’s “Weinachten” to NSYNC’s “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays.”  In addition, the audience is invited to sing along to works, including “Oh Come, All Ye Faithful,” “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” with help from the School of Music’s Percussion Ensemble, Ballroom Dance Club and an organ rented specially for the occasion.

The Kulas Concert Series is made possible by the generous support of the Cleveland-based Kulas Foundation. Tickets are $12 for general admission, $6 for on-UA students and free for UA students with Zip Cards.

Tickets are available at the Akron Civic Theatre Ticket Office in downtown Akron, by calling 330-253-2488, or by visiting UAEvents.com. In addition, tickets will be available at the Thomas Hall Ticket Office two hours before the concert on Sunday, Dec. 13. For more information, call 330-972-8301 or e-mail concerts@uakron.edu.
