HISTORY IS IN THE MAKING as UA's first presidential investiture in 15 years takes place on Friday.
Though President Scott Scarborough has been spending his first months at UA mostly listening and learning, this ceremony will find him surrounded by the pageantry expected of great traditions — even as his speech will be forward-looking.
President Scarborough's address, titled “The Power and the Promise of Public Higher Education,” will describe his aspirations for UA and our community.
Celebration of the University and its students
Investitures are typically formal ceremonies during which the authority and symbols of office (such as the ceremonial mace distinguished by the rising phoenix) are conferred to the new president, but Scarborough requested that the event also celebrate the university, its students and the benefits of public higher education. Accordingly, the event will include musical performances, lending a joyful tone to the proceedings.
A community reception will begin at 3:30 p.m. on the plaza at UA's E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall. The ceremony will begin at 4:30 inside the hall. It is expected to last one hour.
