Summer is officially in full swing in Akron and just because it is summer doesn’t mean you can’t continue to check off items on the Zips 100 list. Here are four ways you can have a memorable summer in and around campus!
#15. Check out a downtown festival
Downtown Akron hosts a variety of festivals and events all summer long. The options are endless, and you can view them here. The next upcoming festival is hosted on the 4th of July weekend, Rib, White and Blue Festival. Admission is free, so grab your friends and come check out this event! There will be live music and plenty of ribs, pulled pork and festival food to enjoy. You can even grab your favorite drink from a downtown establishment and get it to go. This is just one of many great summer events hosted by Downtown Akron Partnership.
#21. Tune into WZIP 88.1, the campus radio station
Cruising around in your car with the windows down? Make sure to tune into your favorite local radio station, WZIP 88.1. WZIP is known for being the number one student-run radio station in the country and is broadcast all year long! If you are looking for something different, tune in Saturday morning for the Saturday Morning Polka Show. The Saturday Morning Polka Show on WZIP has been an Akron staple since August of 1989. #32. Go skating or roller skating on the plaza
Lace up your roller skates or grab your longboard and skate on down to the plaza. You’ll notice that the water fountain is even turned on at the Clara I. Knight Plaza Fountain in front of the E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall. Maybe if you’re lucky you’ll catch a nice misty water breeze to cool you down on a hot summer day!
#49. Eat on the patio at Crave, the Lockview, Jilly’s Music Room and other downtown eateries
Downtown Akron has some of the best food selections around and what better way to enjoy a tasty meal than to enjoy it on a patio. Did you know there are over 20 patios in the Downtown area?
