Luke D. Smith
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has appointed Luke D. Smith to serve as a student trustee to The University of Akron (UA) Board of Trustees. His term will run through July 1, 2024. He will fill the vacancy of McKenzie Gerzanics, whose term ended July 1.
Smith is a sophomore pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Intelligence Analysis. He is a member of the Williams Honors College and is enrolled in the Honors to Law program, an early pathway for aspiring lawyers. He is also a member of the Emerging Leaders Program on campus.
In his first year at the University, Smith completed an internship with the United States Department of Justice working on active criminal investigations. On campus he served as associate justice in Undergraduate Student Government, providing direction for the judicial branch and translating branch goals into a government strategic plan. Also, as a crisis response volunteer for the Victims Assistance Program, he provided support to victims seeking assistance through the 24-hour hotline.
Smith hails from Chillicothe, Ohio and is a graduate of Chillicothe High School. He is the son of Jeff Smith and Alison Smith.
“I'm thrilled to have this opportunity to be a Student Trustee,” said Smith. “I have had the opportunity to work with many great organizations, and I look forward to using skills I have gained from these experiences to serve the University and past, current and future Zips!”
