Students from The University of Akron Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) student chapter dedicated their spring break to serving communities in central Arkansas through a partnership with Habitat for Humanity Central Arkansas.
“Beyond the technical experience, this trip reflects CMAA’s commitment to service, teamwork and applying classroom knowledge to make a meaningful impact,” said Anna Carpenter, president of the CMAA UA student chapter. “Leading this effort has been incredibly rewarding. Our team not only strengthened its construction skills but also built lasting connections while giving back to the community. It was an experience that truly defines who we are as future professionals.”

Students participated in a wide range of hands-on construction and service activities, including brush cleanup, backyard debris removal, porch siding and painting, fencing, deck demolition, mulching, cabinetry work and installing fixtures such as blinds, lighting and countertops.

The immersive service trip was fully planned and funded by CMAA, allowing students to participate at no cost. Support was made possible through student-led fundraising efforts, including hosting a career fair for Construction Engineering Technology students and securing employer sponsorships.
