Three University of Akron (UA) students involved in UA’s Greek organizations are serving in national and regional roles this academic year, putting Zips at the forefront of fraternity and sorority leadership in Ohio and the U.S.

Braxton Moore, an exercise science major, was elected to be the 49th Second Vice Grand Basileus of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. (OPPF). This is the third-highest ranking leadership position in the fraternity, which has around 120,000 members worldwide, and Moore is just the second person in nearly 80 years to be elected to this office from OPPF’s fourth district (Ohio and West Virginia).

Moore’s twin brother, Brandon Moore, the current president of UA’s Beta Beta chapter of OPPF, was elected second vice district representative of the fourth district. Shelby Tremble of the Delta Pi chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. (AKA) at UA was appointed regional cluster coordinator - undergraduate of AKA’s Great Lakes Region (Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia, Western New York and Western Pennsylvania).

“This shows that The University of Akron develops leaders,” Braxton Moore said. “We’re all proud to be representing Akron.”

The Moore brothers, who are both exercise science majors from Cleveland, were elected to their positions at Omega Psi Phi’s biennial International Grand Conclave, which was held in Cincinnati. Tremble, a double major in respiratory therapy and psychology who is from Elyria, Ohio, was elected during AKA’s biennial Boule, held in Las Vegas. Tens of thousands of active and alumni fraternity and sorority members attend these meetings.

Braxton and Brandon Moore both credited UA for putting them and others such as Tremble in a position to grow their leadership skills.

“I just know without Akron, I would not have the impact that I have currently on the community,” Brandon Moore said. “Akron subconsciously molds you into the greatest quality of a human. It forces you to be the best person to your family, best citizen you can be.”

Tremble also felt her time at UA is helping to develop her leadership ability.

“I know being at Akron wasn’t a coincidence,” she said. “The knowledge and experiences I gained throughout my undergraduate journey have shaped me in unimaginable ways. The sisterhood and unwavering commitment to leadership continue to shine within me, allowing me to flourish in my new position and remain tenacious through whatever life throws my way.”

In the months before the International Grand Conclave, Braxton Moore campaigned for his national position in California, Florida, Texas and Tennessee. On the campaign trail, he shared with fellow brothers his goals of putting undergraduates at the center of the fraternity’s programs, developing new and unique ideas for the fraternity’s international undergraduate summit, diversifying the membership to include students from many majors, continuing to center faith in the Christian-based organization, and increasing friendship and unity.

Braxton Moore also enjoyed talking up Akron and UA, especially at a time when many of his brothers with whom he talked were only familiar with the University from the 2025 Streamer University event, which was hosted at the University by streaming icon Kai Cenat.

“I talked about how beautiful the campus is, the engaged student body, organizations like the Zips Activities Board, how friendly people are, and all the opportunities that the campus provides,” he said. “The longer I am here, the more my pride for Akron has developed.”
