What is Convocation?
Convocation is more than a ceremony—it's your official welcome to The University of Akron.
The day begins with a campus-wide celebration where you'll join the Class of 2030, hear from campus and community leaders, and receive your Zippy pin to commemorate the start of your journey as a Zip.
After the ceremony, the celebration continues on Coleman Common with food, music, games, and opportunities to connect with your classmates. You'll also spend time with your academic college, where you'll meet faculty and staff, learn more about your major, and start building connections within your college community.
To wrap up the day, many students choose to attend a Focused Welcome Event, where you can connect with other new Zips who share your interests or experiences.
We can't wait to welcome you to campus and celebrate this exciting milestone with you!

New Student Welcome Reception Keep the celebration going with food, music, yard games, and plenty of opportunities to meet classmates, faculty, and staff. Don't forget to stop by the GO ZIPS photo opportunity before heading to your college welcome! |

College Welcome Events Meet at the colored flag representing your academic college on Coleman Common. Our student leaders will guide you to your college's welcome event, where you'll meet faculty, staff, and classmates before beginning the semester together. |
