OARS Learning Communities

Learning Communities

The Office of Academic and Retention Support (OARS) offers Learning Communities designed to support first year students in its programs while engaging in their particular interests. Learning Communities (LCs) are groups of 20 to 25 students who take classes together during their first semester focusing on a specific theme, academic major, or interest. OARS offers Learning Communities tailored to the students in each of our programs taking into account their particular interests and academic needs.

Why be a part of the community?

OARS Living Learning Community The University of Akron

These communities help you build deeper connections to other members in the community and have greater access to faculty and the university, which often results in better grades and a richer college experience.

LCs provide:

  • Support: A smoother transition into college life.
  • Connection: Opportunities to build friendships and study groups.
  • Experience: Enriching academic and extracurricular activities.
  • Exploration: A deeper dive into shared interests within your community.
