Biography

Shi-Qing Wang, a leader in polymer rheology and mechanics, came to UA in 2000 after serving 11 years on the faculty in the Department of Macromolecular Science and Engineering at Case Western Reserve University. He joined CWUR in October 1989 after receiving a Ph.D. in physics from University of Chicago in 1987 and two years of postdoctoral research at UCLA, and rose to the rank of full professorship in 1998 while developing a research style to internalize experimental and theoretical activities. At UA, Wang has built a unique research program that resulted in a paradigm shift in the field of nonlinear rheology of entangled polymers and a book – Nonlinear Polymer Rheology: Macroscopic Phenomenology and Molecular Foundation (Wiley, 2018). The more recent adventure of his research group has explored a working theoretical framework for mechanical behavior of polymers in (glassy and semicrystalline) solid state that can lead to molecular design of stronger sustainable and conventional polymeric materials.

Research

Polymer physics and engineering: Rheological and rheo-optical properties of polymer melts, blends and solutions; polymer dynamics; processing effects in both commercial and model polymeric (amorphous and semi-crystalline) materials; fracture and mechanical properties of polymers.
