About

Dr. Peter Q. Pfordresher became dean of The University of Akron's Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences in 2026. An accomplished academic leader and internationally recognized scholar in music cognition, he brings extensive experience supporting student success, faculty excellence and innovative teaching and research. His research explores the connections between music, language and the brain, with a focus on how people perceive, produce and learn music. Before joining UA, he served in several leadership roles at the University at Buffalo, including associate dean for academic affairs, department chair and professor of psychology.

Education

Ph.D. in Cognitive/Experimental Psychology from The Ohio State University, Master of Science in Experimental Methods in Psychology from University College London, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Georgetown University.

Research

How people perceive, produce and learn music. His research explores the connections between music, language and the brain, with a focus on music cognition and auditory feedback.
