Janice Troutman

About

Janice Troutman has over 40 years of experience working as a designer/educator. She is ambitious, goal oriented and a right brain thinker. These energetic qualities coupled with her very approachable demeanor allows her to make emotional connections that inspire other people to become involved. She creates opportunities, articulates big ideas, and makes things happen. She currently holds the rank of Distinguished Professor Emeritus from the Myers School of Art at The University of Akron where she taught in graphic design for 37 years. From 2015–2026 she held the title of School Director. Her contributions to the school while serving as director will impact generations of students to come. In 1995 Janice founded and was co-creative director for design x nine, the award-winning student design studio within the Myers School of Art. Previous to teaching at the university level, she was an art director in a full-service advertising agency. Her expertise coordinating complex projects as well as the work accomplished by design x nine, is acknowledged by receiving over 100 professional awards in local to international design competitions including the prestigious Silver Medal Award in 2021, which honors individuals for their outstanding lifetime contribution to the advertising field from the American Advertising Federation. Other awards and publications include: The Drench Award, The ADDY Award, American Corporate Identity, Creativity, The Admissions Advertising Award, How Magazine and Communication Arts.
