Overview
Prepare for a Specialized Career in Cardiac Sonography and Health Care Leadership
Are you interested in both the clinical and administrative sides of health care? The University of Akron’s Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration – Medical Sonography (Cardiac) track is designed for students who want to take on leadership roles while gaining specialized training in diagnostic cardiac imaging.
Students complete the first three years of foundational coursework at UA and then transition into a competitive, affiliate program at Cleveland Clinic, where they receive hands-on clinical training in cardiac sonography. This unique partnership provides a seamless path to both professional credentialing and leadership preparation.

Admission to Medical Sonography School
Applications are open from March 1 to June 1 of each calendar year.
Are in good academic, financial and disciplinary standing at their undergraduate institution;
Shall have a cumulative GPA of 2.75.
Applicants must have completed the college credit prerequisites with a grade of C or better;
Applicants must have completed a background check
Applicants must have completed a Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Course
Must participate in a behavior-based interview with program officials.
Career Outcomes
Graduates of the Health Care Administration – Sonography combined degree are prepared for careers as diagnostic medical sonographers while also gaining the leadership and business skills to advance into supervisory or administrative roles in healthcare settings. This unique pathway positions graduates to not only perform high-demand imaging procedures but also manage teams, operations, and patient care services within hospitals, clinics, and specialized imaging centers. Graduates will be eligible to sit for the sonography credential administered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Additionally, students may opt to sit for the following national board certifications:
Certified Professional Coder (CPC®) – American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC)
Certified Coding Specialist – Physician-based (CCS-P®) – American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
