Overview

The Music Composition Minor is ideal for students who want to explore the creative process of writing music. Open to music majors and non-majors alike, this program builds foundational skills in theory, musicianship, and composition through applied lessons and electives in orchestration, electronic music, and analysis. Students work closely with composition faculty to develop their unique voice and produce original works. To be accepted as a music major, both freshmen and transfer students must successfully complete an audition on their major applied instrument, complete the Undergraduate Placement Examination in Music Theory, and be evaluated in keyboard skills.
