The University of Akron’s Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration – Accelerated Nursing Track is ideal for students who want to develop both administrative and clinical expertise. This unique pathway is designed for those new to health care or seeking career advancement through a fast, efficient, and high-impact program.
Health care administration professionals work closely with clinical and administrative teams to manage and improve health care delivery. Through this program, students build a strong foundation in both the business and clinical aspects of the field—preparing for leadership roles and direct care responsibilities.
About the Accelerated Nursing Track
Students complete their first three years in the Health Care Administration major and then transition into a 15-month accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. This pathway provides a streamlined route to becoming a registered nurse, while also equipping graduates with the administrative skills needed for supervisory and leadership roles in health care.
This pathway is especially valuable for those who wish to have both the clinical and administrative skills, have decided on nursing later in the college journey, or who have a large number of transfer credits.
Admissions Requirements
Admission to Health Care Administration
Admission to the University of Akron.
Admission to the Accelerated Nursing Program
Apply to the Accelerated Nursing program with a cumulative GPA of 2.75. Pre-requisite science courses must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.
Complete all pre-requisites courses with a grade of “C” or higher. Science prerequisites may not be repeated more than once in order to achieve the “C” minimum.
Able to maintain full time status.
Completion of the prerequisite courses prior to beginning the first nursing course.
Preference will be given to applicants who have completed the pre-requisite science courses within 5 years of application to the program.
Two letters of recommendation.

A 500-word Personal Statement addressing how you can contribute to the field of nursing.
Important note: Admission to the Health Care Administration program does not guarantee admission to the Accelerated Nursing program; students must meet all eligibility and admission requirements of the School of Nursing.
Career Outcomes
This track is an excellent choice for students seeking a dual advantage—clinical licensure as an RN and administrative skills to lead in a complex health care environment. Graduates will have the ability to sit for the NCLEX exam to become a registered nurse may also be eligible to sit for national certification exams, including:
Certified Professional Coder (CPC®) – AAPC
Certified Coding Specialist – Physician-based (CCS-P®) – AHIMA
