Handshake
Handshake is UA’s networking and job board where employers can post internship, co-op, part-time, full-time, student employment and other work-based and experiential learning opportunities for UA students and alumni. Students, alumni, and employers can access career fair and event information. Employers can use Handshake to directly connect with students and alumni through messaging and sharing career events. Students and alumni can schedule appointments with their Career Services advisor and access other career resources.
Access Handshake
New students enrolling in classes at The University of Akron for an upcoming semester, you will automatically receive access to Handshake when you receive your UA email and are a confirmed student.
Current students can access Handshake using “The University of Akron Sign On”. Type in your UA Net ID or UA E-mail and Password and click Login.
Make the Most of Handshake
- Search for work-based and experiential learning opportunities, internships, co-ops, on-campus student employment, part-time and full-time jobs.
- Review and register for career events such as workshops, panels, career fairs.
- Schedule an appointment with your Career Services advisor.
- Access Career Resources Guides.
- Research, follow, and message employers and other students in Handshake to expand your network.
- Wayne College students: Check out the Wayne College Handshake Feed for available jobs, internships and co-op opportunities that are near Wayne College.
Access Handshake
- If you have access to your Handshake account, please update it with your personal email to maintain your access.
- If you do not have access to Handshake or have never had an account, please contact Career Services at 330-972-7747 or career@uakron.edu and provide the following information: full name listed on your degree, major, graduation year or student ID number to verify alumni status.

Employer Handshake Account
Create a Free New Employer Account
To create a new employer account on Handshake, click here to begin the registration process.
- Create a new user account with your company email address to create your Handshake user account.
- Create and confirm a password.
- After creating your user account, create a new employer/company account.
- You will receive an email with a link within 10 minutes to verify your email - check your junk and spam folders if you don't see an email.
Add Yourself as a Contact or User on an Existing Employer Account
- Use your company email address to create your Handshake user account.
- Create and confirm a password.
- Connect to your company’s existing employer account for your organization; your user account may need to be confirmed by the account owner.

Post a Job
- Visit Handshake to post positions for work-based and experiential learning, internships, co-ops, part-time, or full-time opportunities.
- To post a job, log into your Handshake account and click on Create Job (Internship, Volunteer, Full-time and Part-time).

Post Career Events
- Visit Handshake to post career events that are open to all UA students.
- Once approved, events will be visible to students.
- Virtual events can be posted on Handshake for use with your preferred platform.
- To create an event, log into your Handshake account and click on Create Event - events can be virtual, at UA, or at another location.

Connect Your Employer Contacts with Career Services and Handshake
Career Services can invite your employer contacts to join Handshake, UA’s networking and job board, to post work-based and experiential learning, internships, co-ops, and jobs, learn about events, and more. Faculty and staff can either contact Career Services, or encourage employers to contact Career Services directly, at career@uakron.edu or 330-972-7747 for more information.
Career Services provides opportunities for employers to:
