Message from the Director

Julianne Jones
Director, Professor

I would like to welcome you to George W. Daverio School of Accountancy at the College of Business, The University of Akron. As you explore our program offerings, I’d like to offer a few points that don’t always easily translate into the program descriptions:

  • Value-driven, success-oriented culture: We provide an environment that enables committed students to achieve their goals. Students are held to the highest standard of professional rigor while simultaneously encouraged to achieve it.
  • Committed faculty. While each of our faculty are specialists and experts in their own right and contribute to your experience in different ways, they share a tight bond and common goal of promoting successful student outcomes. We are proud of our high caliber faculty who blend their professional and academic experience into a vibrant and engaging experience for students. Learn more about our award winning faculty on our Faculty Page.
  • Multi-generational tradition: Many of our accomplished alumni remain active in our school: serving on our Advisory Boards, teaching, mentoring students and providing professional opportunities. Alumni from as many as 50 years ago participate actively, and alumni from every graduation year since participate in some way.

Our faculty use their professional experience as an integral part of the classroom learning process. I am a proud MTax alumni of the George W. Daverio School of Accountancy. For ten years after graduation, I worked in corporate and public accounting specializing in tax. I then choose to spend several years serving in the US Peace Corps using my knowledge and experience to help establish small business development centers. I am able to use the rich experience from both private business and public service to illustrate real life scenarios and application of the material.

Please consider joining our community and developing your own professional path. Should you have questions, please contact me at jbb14@uakron.edu
