To redeploy existing university computers before they become obsolete.
To safely and efficiently dispose of obsolete computers and/or hazardous electronic equipment.
To ensure that sensitive data does not leave the university and verify that certificates of destruction have been issued for every surplus computer.
Policy
Computers are university property, not department property.
Mark on cases or monitors with pencil only—no markers, stencils, paint, stickers, or other non-removable markings.
Do not cannibalize computers.
Remove BIOS passwords.
Hard drives do not need to be wiped; computer surplus will perform this function.
Send all non-functional or replaced parts to surplus for disposal. Computer parts and electronic components are considered hazardous waste and have specific disposal requirements.
