Cleveland on the Couch: Psychoanalysis in Cleveland
Past exhibit. September 14, 2021 through February 12, 2022
National Museum of Psychology, Gallery C
How does the history of psychoanalysis in Cleveland reflect the hopes of pioneering analyst Sigmund Freud and his followers? How have world events, popular culture, and academic communities shaped and responded to psychoanalytic theory and practice? From Vienna to Northeast Ohio, Cleveland on the Couch explores the arrival and impact of psychoanalysis in the United States, with a focus on the local connections between the Freud family and the establishment of a psychoanalytic stronghold in Cleveland.
This exhibit was developed by the Cleveland Psychoanalytic Center and is hosted by the Cummings Center for the History of Psychology.
