Part-Time Faculty Resources

Teaching at UA

The Institute for Teaching, Learning and Assessment and the Office of Academic Affairs provide many useful resources for faculty, including information about syllabi, what to do if you suspect academic misconduct, A.I. in the classroom and best practices for online teaching.

Shared Governance

Part-time Faculty have shared governance representation through both Faculty Senate and the University Council.

Faculty Senate. The Part-time Faculty elects two representatives to the Senate, and Part-time Faculty members are welcome to serve on any Senate committee.

* The Part-time Faculty Committee (PTFC) is a standing committee of the Faculty Senate charged with proposing rules, requirements, and procedures to the Faculty Senate that improve working conditions for Part-time Faculty. The contact information for the current chair of the PTFC can be found here.

* University Council . The UC and its eight standing committees represent all primary campus constituency groups: faculty, staff, professional staff, students, deans, department chairs and administrators.

How do Part-time Faculty get promoted?

Conduct a self-review:

* Assistant Lecturers: have you completed 60 credit hours of university teaching?
* Associate Lecturers: have you completed 100 credit hours of university teaching?
* If you have earned a credential since your initial hire (such as a Doctoral degree) you may be eligible for promotion. See the University rule for Part-time Faculty for more information.
Note that your teaching credits can be earned at any university, not just UA. Contact the administrative assistant in your department or school if you have reached the above levels.
