Department of Geosciences

In the Department of Geosciences at The University of Akron, you study Earth’s materials, structures, and processes and how they’ve changed over time. Faculty research spans hydrogeology, paleoclimate reconstruction, sedimentology, geochemistry, geobiology, and environmental change, so you learn from active experts who bring fieldwork and lab discoveries into class.

Our facilities include modern instrumentation for geologic and environmental research, from scanning electron microscopes to aqueous geochemistry labs.

You can choose from undergraduate and graduate degrees in geology, earth science, and environmental science, as well as undergraduate and graduate certificates in environmental studies. Each program blends coursework, research, and field experiences you can tailor to your goals, with opportunities to present your work at professional meetings and gain real-world experience before graduation.
