Form Beyond Function: Fine and Decorative Art from the Lee L. Forman Collection of Bags
Opened August 16, 2024. On display now.
Institute for Human Science and Culture, 4th Floor
The Lee L. Forman Collection of Bags, donated to The University of Akron in 2019, goes far beyond functional shopping and gift bags. Among the 12,000 pieces is a significant assortment of fine and decorative art. Form Beyond Function highlights how a wide range of artists have elevated common sacks, bags, and totes to subjects of fine art and creative expression. The exhibit represents diverse techniques and materials, from paper bag canvases to elaborate glass sculpture.
Form Beyond Function was curated and installed by Institute Student Assistant Val Metzger.
