The University Archives maintains a vast, comprehensive collection of resources about the history of The University of Akron and its predecessor institutions, Municipal University of Akron (1913-1926) and Buchtel College (1870-1913).
The University Archives collects, preserves, and provides access to official records that have been identified as having historical value. It also holds unofficial records, papers, and publications that pertain to the university but were created or received by university-affiliated individuals and organizations. Historical materials are transferred on a continual basis.
Note: Some records are restricted due to confidentiality or federal laws such as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). To access these records, a Public Records Request must be submit for consideration by the Office of General Counsel.
