Student Life

Small Classes. Big Support.

Learn in an environment where you won't get lost in the crowd. With faculty-to-student ratios of 1:10 in nursing labs and 1:6–8 during clinical experiences, you'll receive personalized instruction, meaningful feedback, and plenty of hands-on practice.

A Community That Cares

Our faculty are approachable, invested, and accessible. Students know their professors by their first names, and it's not uncommon for faculty to share their cell phone numbers so help is only a call or text away. Here, questions are encouraged, mentorship is personal, and your success is everyone's priority.

Additionally, every nursing student is partnered with a professional academic advisor in our Student Success Center. These professionals are dedicated helping you meet your individual academic and personal goals.

Lead, Serve, and Grow

Build your résumé and your network through organizations like the Student Nurses' Association and the Delta Omega Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Develop leadership skills, serve your community, attend professional conferences, and connect with future colleagues.

Beyond the Classroom

Customize your college experience with opportunities that match your goals. Conduct faculty-mentored nursing research through the Williams Honors College, or connect with classmates who share your passion for health care by living in a nursing Living-Learning Community. From your first semester through graduation, you'll find opportunities to learn, lead, and belong.

Learn From Students Who've Been There

Learn from students who've been in your shoes.

Success in nursing isn't a solo journey, and at Akron, you'll never have to figure it out alone. Our free, peer-led tutoring program connects you with nursing students who have successfully completed the very courses you're taking. They'll share study strategies, answer questions and help you build the confidence to tackle challenging material.

Our tiered tutoring model reflects the culture of the School of Nursing: collaborative, supportive and committed to helping every student succeed.

Need extra help with Anatomy & Physiology? We've got that covered, too. Because A&P lays the foundation for everything that follows in nursing school, dedicated tutoring is available to help you master key concepts and feel confident as you move into upper-level nursing coursework.

Conveniently located in Mary Gladwin Hall, tutoring is always close by—making it easy to stop in between classes, connect with peers and keep moving toward your goals.
